Description Providing supplemental oxygen to those that need it is an essential element of emergency care. The Oxygen Administration course is designed to give the student an overview of how to safely handle and effectively administer supplemental oxygen in various settings and during an emergency. The course can be taught as a stand-alone course or as an optional component of CPR, AED, and First Aid courses.
Who Should Take This Course? This course is for anyone who has supplemental oxygen onsite, or anyone expected to administer supplemental oxygen to a person in need.
Course Content Key topics discussed in the Oxygen Administration course include:
- The components that make up a supplemental oxygen system
- The various types of supplemental oxygen devices
- Important safety, storage, service and maintenance steps regarding the use of supplemental oxygen systems
- The importance of supplemental oxygen in the care of victims of sudden illness or injury
- Using supplemental oxygen equipment when providing care for a breathing or non-breathing victim
Required Student Materials No materials are required. The instructor will supply any materials to the participants during the course.
Course Format and Exam The course length is 1-1.5 hours. There is no required exam.
Course Completion Card Participants will receive a certification card, through the Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI), valid for two years.
