Description  The Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Online course teaches students how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials.  The AHA’s Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Online Course has been updated to reflect updates to the Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29CFR 1910.1030).  This Web-based eLearning course teaches students how to protect themselves from bloodborne pathogens and how to properly handle and react to blood in the workplace. Meets the Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29CFR 1910.1030), published by OSHA. May be used for initial or renewal training.  CE/CME credits are not offered for this course.

Who Should Take This Course?   Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Online is for students who prefer to complete the program at their own pace at work, home, or wherever Internet access is available. This course is designed for workers in the commercial market who must receive training per OSHA standard 1910.1030 and also for anyone with a reasonable chance of coming into contact with bloodborne pathogens such as: correctional officers, childcare workers, security guards, maintenance workers, school personnel, hotel housekeepers, health and fitness club staff, tattoo artists

Course Content
AHA’s course uses the PACT acronym (Protect, Act, Clean, Tell) and slogan, “Make a PACT, Know How to Act,” to help students learn and easily recall bloodborne pathogens training. Students learn how to:

  • Protect themselves from blood or blood-containing materials.
  • Act when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace
  • Act quickly and safely.
  • Take the right steps to clean themselves and the area involved when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace
  • Inform their supervisor about the incident.
  • Report any exposure to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace

 

Required Student Materials After purchasing the online course, there are no additional materials required.

Course Format and Exam  This course takes approximately 1.0 hour to complete.  No skills test or skills demonstration is required at the end of this course.

Course Completion Card (Valid for 1 year)  Students can access downloadable Participation Certificate upon course completion.  Students complete a series of online lessons and interactive questions. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a completion certificate. Optional written exam available. PC and Mac® compatible.
