Description AHA Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online has been updated to reflect new science from the 2015 AHA Guidelines for CPR & ECC and the 2015 AHA/Red Cross Guidelines for First Aid. This course is designed to prepare students to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. AHA Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online is the eLearning portion of the Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Blended Learning Course and is designed to teach students information needed for first aid, CPR, and AED training. Upon completion of the online portion, students must complete hands-on skills session with an American Heart Association Instructor. CE/CME credits are not offered for this course. Skills sessions must completed within 90 days of the completion of the online course. You can find your completion date printed on your completion certificate.
Who Should Take This Course? This course is for students who prefer the convenience of completing the course at their own pace at work, home, or wherever Internet access is available. First Aid CPR AED is designed for individuals who need a CPR card and a First Aid card for either personal reasons or for work purposes . This class is perfect for the lay person, parents, babysitters, the fitness instructor, the educator, the childcare professional, coaches, camp counselors, etc. This class is not for the healthcare provider or any medical/nursing student (please see BLS Class for Healthcare Providers).

- Describe how high-quality CPR improves survival
- Explain the concepts of the Chain of Survival
- Recognize when someone needs CPR
- Perform high-quality CPR for an adult and child
- Describe how to perform CPR with help from others
- Give effective breaths by using mouth-to-mouth or a mask for all age groups
- Demonstrate how to use an AED on an adult and child
- List the priorities, roles, and responsibilities of first aid rescuers
- Describe the key steps in first aid
- Remove protective gloves
- Find the problem
- Describe the assessment and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, and stroke
- Use an epinephrine pen
- Control bleeding and bandaging
- Recognize elements of common injuries
- Recognize elements of common illnesses
- Describe how to find information on preventing illness and injury
- Recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers
- *Optional module: Perform high-quality CPR for an infant
- *Optional module: Demonstrate how to help a choking infant

Course Format Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner online, followed by a hands-on session with an American Heart Association certified instructor.
