Online CPR (Also known as Blended Learning)
This option is for students who wish to take their class online, and complete a short skills assessment (manikin practice) and skills testing with one of our instructors. The cost of this course includes the online portion and the skills assessment. There is no textbook required. Students receive the SAME certification card as a traditional class.
What is Blended learning?
Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner online, followed by a hands-on session. Successful blended learning courses reaches students with varying learning styles and in different environments. It combines the flexibility of online training with skills practice and testing for CPR and other psychomotor skills.
What are the benefits of blended learning?
By far the greatest benefit of blended learning is the convenience it allows students and organizations. Below is a list of convenient benefits of blended learning for both the individual student and for the organization:
Benefits for the Individual
- Time in classrooms is minimized as only the hands-on skills session needs to be completed in person. Training is completed mostly on the student’s schedule
- Students can complete most, if not all the course online anytime and anywhere with internet access. Courses can be completed at home or on the go, on any preferred desktop or tablet device
- Students can review topics that are difficult for them as many times as they needed, and complete the course at their own pace which increases their confidence and mastery of skills. This also improves the chances of student’s high performance at the skills session (for blended learning courses) and in real life situations
- There is consistent training throughout the process
- CE credits are available for all of these courses; refer to course pages for specifics
- If required, the student manual is provided with the online course. It does not need to be purchased separately
- Students get access to all materials for 24 months, online only

Online Blended Learning and claiming your eCard
Part 1 Students are provided with an eLearning code or link which allows them to complete the cognitive portion of the course, including the written exam (if required), entirely online.
Upon successfully completing the online portion of the course, students will receive a printable certificate that grants them entrance into the Hands-On Practice / Skills Test with a Citywide CPR Instructor. The Online Blended Learning course includes online access to the student manual and course information for 24 months.
Part 2 Students participate in the instructor-supervised, practical portion of the Hands-On Practice / Skills Test with a Citywide CPR Instructor. These Hands-on sessions are conducted in person with an AHA Instructor, or by using a Voice Assisted Manikin (VAM), where available. students must complete the hands-on session to obtain an AHA course completion eCard.
Claiming your eCard Once Parts 1 and 2 of the course have been successfully completed, the student will be assigned an American Heart Association eCard. Only the student can claim their eCard through the American Heart Association. Students receive an American Heart Association eCard, valid for two years. AHA cards will be processed as eCards, and usually received within 48 hours following the class.
